These enormous raptors are said to fly with the silence of an owl, swoop with the accuracy of a hawk, and fight with the strength of a bear. They can also cast spells that call on the power of sky and storms. Thunderbirds are stern, strict creatures, but they generally use their abilities for good.

- •Screech: Warns enemies. Each kitty must succeed on a Fierce check or run away
- •Carry Aloft: A kitty must make a Fierce check or the bird carries them into the air.
- •Wing Buffet: Kitties must make a Fierce check or be knocked down by a huge gust of air, which sounds like the rumble of distant thunder. They’re incapacitated for one turn.
- •Sky Spells: A thunderbird can call down rain, lighting, or storms, even in the middle of a clear and sunny day.
Variants
Reuse this foe’s stats for other creatures:
- Mods: For a phoenix, roc, or other giant magical bird, replace Wing Buffet and Sky Spells with appropriate magical effects. Pterosaurs remove Wing Buffet and Sky Spells.
Adventure ingredients
- Rocky Ridge: On a ledge half way up the cliff face of Windy Ridge (p18) is an enormous mass of branches. It’s the nest of a pair of thunderbirds. These giant birds could give kitties rides and carry heavy things, if the kitties can win their trust.
