Kai-Borg
EpicRivals · Epic Rival · Really Big
Epic Foe — beyond the normal Boss scale, fought across several stat blocks (see below).
Kai-borg are massive hybrids of alien animals and machines created by the Varlin Empire. They stand as tall as buildings and can wreak havoc on any world they touch.
Reactions
- •Weapon of Choice: Causes three Owies.
- •Area Blast: Causes two Owies to everybody in the blast area.
- •Disaster: The kai-borg creates a Difficulty 5 Disaster, such as setting a building on fire, cracking a dam so that it's about to burst, or breaking a railroad track when a train is speeding towards it.
Weakness
Each kai-borg has its own special Weakness. It might require you to wait for a special time to attack, hit it in a vulnerable place, or use a special kind of material. See the sample kai-borgs below for example Weaknesses.
Variants
Reuse this foe’s stats for other creatures:
- As-Is: Kaiju, mutant dinosaurs, anything else the size of a skyscraper.
Adventure ingredients
- Sleeping Beast: Scientists discover a kai-borg in stasis, buried beneath the ice of Antarctica. They put together a secret mission to excavate and study it. What could possibly go wrong? (It could wake up and go on a rampage. That's what.)
Sample Kai-Borgs
Every kai-borg is unique. Power Up gives these two as worked examples of the signature abilities and Weaknesses one can have.
Armado the Shieldbearer
Armado looks like a giant humanoid armadillo covered with cybernetic modifications. Her weapon of choice is a massive energy shield created by a generator on her wrist.
- Weakness: Kitties can distract Armado with a Cunning or Cute check. If they succeed, she is unable to use her shield properly, which reduces her Fierce Difficulty to 4. The next time she uses a Reaction, she also realigns her shield, returning her Fierce Difficulty to 6.
- Shield Emitter: Kitties can also destroy the shield emitter. Treat this as a chunk with three Owies that otherwise has the same stats as Armado. Destroying the shield permanently lowers her Fierce Difficulty to 3.
Vulcar the Explosive
Vulcar appears to be a humanoid iguana with cracks in his skin. These cracks glow as though there is a fire within him. He fights with a giant sword made of fire.
- Eruption: Every time Vulcar uses a Reaction, he earns one eruption token in addition to the normal Reaction. If he has three tokens, on his next Reaction, instead of gaining another token, he spends them all to do an Eruption attack: everyone nearby takes three Owies and he starts a Wildfire Disaster (Core Rulebook p. 63).
- Weakness: After using the Eruption attack, Vulcar is momentarily weakened. His difficulties all decrease by 2. Each kitty can do one thing against Vulcar before his difficulties return to normal.
