Immortal Sorcerer
EpicMagicalHumans · Epic Magical Human · Medium
Epic Foe — beyond the normal Boss scale, fought across several stat blocks (see below).
A handful of powerful spellcasters have discovered the secret of eternal life. They achieve their immortality by placing part of their spirit inside an object, such as a ring, an egg, or the smallest bone from their pinkie finger.
These immortal sorcerers have two forms. Most of the time, they appear as humans in the prime of their life, but this is an illusion. If the kitties weaken a sorcerer, their true form is revealed: an emaciated, skeletal figure with shriveled flesh.
The objects they place their life into are heavily guarded or require special conditions to destroy. A soul in a magic mirror might need to be brought into the mirror world to destroy it. A magic egg carrying a soul might be hidden inside a duck that nests in a hollow log that floats in a pond found in a forest on a remote island. An object might be indestructible except by the sorcerer who created it, requiring the kitties to trick the sorcerer into doing so.
Reactions
- •Defend Me: A minion of the sorcerer uses its Reaction.
- •Ensnare: Magical ribbons ensnare the kitty. The kitty must pass a Difficulty 6 Cunning or Fierce check to escape before doing anything else.
- •Magical Explosion: Causes two Owies to each kitty in the area. Sorcerers often specialize in one type of explosion (such as Sorlana's explosion of glass).
- •Summon Minion: The sorcerer summons or creates a minion, such as a snake (Core Rulebook p. 55) or an evil sword (Core Rulebook p. 57).
Special
- •Transformation: If the sorcerer suffers enough Owies to defeat it, it instead transforms into its true form.
True Form
Defeating the first form doesn't end the fight — it reveals a second stat block.
Immortal Sorcerer (True Form)
After the immortal sorcerer is defeated, it reveals its true form.
Reactions
The sorcerer can use any Reaction of their first form, plus:
- •Butterflies of Flame: Causes four Owies to one kitty.
- •Rocks Fall: The sorcerer causes a Disaster, such as an earthquake (Core Rulebook p. 61), magical storm (Core Rulebook p. 62), or wildfire (Core Rulebook p. 63).
- •Statue: A kitty turns to stone until the sorcerer is defeated or another kitty uses magic to restore them.
Special
- Immortal: If the sorcerer suffers enough Owies to defeat it, it might retreat or disappear, but it can only be permanently defeated if the kitties also destroy the object housing its life-force.
