Dryad

Dryads look like beautiful young women, but they’re actually the living spirits of trees. Their “clothing” is a bark-like growth that’s part of their body, and they have unusually colored skin in vibrant hues. Beech-dryads are pale green, birch-dryads silver, larch-dryads a golden-yellow, oak-dryads a dark green, cherry-dryads ruby, willow-dryads grey, wisteria-dryads purple, and so forth. Every dryad has a heart-tree. A dryad’s relationship with her heart-tree is complex. In some ways the heart-tree is her mother, from which she was born. In others, it’s like a home or a warm bath. It’s a place of comfort and refuge. If a dryad dies, her heart-tree dies. The reverse isn’t true, although a dryad who loses her heart-tree becomes heartbroken and seeks vengeance.

- •Step Into Trees: The dryad runs into a tree as if it were an open doorway. She can then emerge from any other tree within sight immediately or at a time of her choosing.
- •Tree’s Wrath: In great anger, the dryad calls upon the trees nearby to rouse themselves. All kitties must make a Fierce test or suffer one Owie from the scraping branches.
Adventure ingredients
- Fairy Diplomat: Dryads can’t understand some magical kitties’ relationship with humans, who destroy the trees they love. But because Wild Ones have no humans, dryads are generally friendlier toward kitties than other fairies are. Dryads can make introductions and act as peacemakers, and can be the kitties’ first contact when matters of Fairyland arise.
