Throughout the Martian landscape, ancient turrets still stand after centuries of inactivity. They can be found in some of the lava tubes where visitors from other planets once made bases, attached to abandoned spacecraft, and occasionally even in magical locations where Martian water was once collected. These artificially intelligent machines are stationary, but each can rotate their gun in any direction — making an approach a dangerous endeavor. They detect potential enemies by movement and sound. The good news? The turrets are so old, it doesn't take much to destroy them.
Reactions
- •Laser Gun: Causes two Owies and can set flammable materials on fire.
- •Self-Destruct: If a turret has been attacked by three or more individuals, it self-destructs. The explosion is not all that impressive, though. It only causes one Owie to anyone within ten feet of it.
Adventure ingredients
- Hacking Challenge: A tech-savvy kitty decides to reprogram a turret so it can help the colonists blow up rocks for a mining operation. The hard part will be getting close enough to one without letting it self-destruct!
- Turret Maze: Sometimes there are just too many turrets in one location to safely confront. Winding and branching lava tubes can be full of them, and if all of them self-destruct at once it could cause a cave-in. If the kitties can find a way to pass undetected, maybe by traveling along the ceiling or using magic to make themselves invisible and silent, they may be able to get to the other side of the turret maze.
